Mixture Soil With Tung Oil To Obstruct Diesel

The universal existence of leak in gas stations often results in serious environmental consequences. To prevent the leakage and migration of oil products from tanks into the surrounding environment, it is required that every underground storage tank system must be designed to incorporate a secondary containment system to isolate the whole storage tank. In this study, tung oil was studied to retard the breakthrough of diesel and silt was modified by incorporating with tung oil. Meanwhile, compaction test, permeability test and shearing test were applied to determine the physical and mechanical property of modified silt, comparing with original silt. What's more, the effect of tung oil to cut off the oil is validated by the imitation of finite element software Geoslope. The main contents and results are following:1. The film formed by tung oil was found to be an effective barrier to diesel. Meanwhile, The soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) of the silt and the improved silt is drew by the experiment. The improvement of silt by Tung oil could increase the water retention capability of the silt, consistent with the decreased permeability coefficient. This feature could improve the resistance of silt to evaporation in unsaturated state which might result in crack and thus give rise to the risk of gas leakage in landfill liner system.2. With silane coupling agent, tung oil can be strongly bonded to the surface of silt and fill pores. The effect of the improved silt with the silane coupling agent resistance to leakage is relatively stable, but the hydraulic conductivity is lower. The result shows that when the water content was 10% and the mass ratio of the silt and tung oil was 90:10, the hydraulic conductivities of the mixed silt to both water and diesel were 1 order of magnitude lower than that of original silt. However, the strength of the improve silt is lower than the silt.3. The effect of tung oil to cut off the oil is validated by the imitation of finite element software Geoslope. As the difference situation of gas stations and oilfield, we propose the difference treatment method.In a word, The mixture soil with tung oil to obstruct diesel is effective.
