The cause of the rapid development of highway to road quality testing techniques has become increasingly demanding. The traditional detection methods are random, low efficiency, poor accuracy, and high economic costs, destructive and easy to lead to increase road damage. Ground Penetrating Radar (referred to as GPR) is a new non-destructive testing of highway equipment, which is the use of the underground media to detect differences in electrical properties of an electromagnetic detection method. To detect it in its speed and high resolution for detection of objects without damage, it can get the information advantages of continuous imaging in the shallow strata fine structure and high-resolution hidden detection, which has been widely used and achieved satisfactory results. In this paper, the work of GPR theory and field tests is used to study the GPR in the path of the quality of detection. And through data processing and analysis, the thickness of the test section of a calibration, and its hidden nature and depth of defects are more accurate detection. The main contents of this paper and research results are as follows:1. Summarized the development of GPR, as well as the way of using GPR applications and also, cleared the meaning of this article and research topics.2. Summarized the composition and basic theory of GPR system, the electromagnetic wave propagation characteristics and transmission characteristics. Introduced the working principle of the way with GPR as well as its detection performance and performance indicators.3. Cleared all aspects of technology of GPR non-destructive testing, that is, line layout, data acquisition, data processing and data interpretation. Among them, the use of data-processing method carried out in-depth research, and verified the corresponding methods of treatment with the actual data.4. Selected the test section of the road for the quality of GPR detection of the case studies. Layer of pavement structure combined thickness of the test section of the principle of calibration of the thickness, and thickness of the surface layer and the sub-base layer were 15cm and 33cm.5. Identified hidden defects in the test sections, by means of GPR data processing and analysis of the test sections, which were combined with the principle of disease to identify the roadbed. Subsidence was given sections of the GPR profiles. There were a total of 12 hidden defects existing and, respectively, marking the location of the defects.
