Elastic ring squeeze oil film damper (ERSFD) combines elastic ring bearing and squeeze film damper, holding the advantages of traditional squeeze film damper and improving the nonlinear characteristics at the same time. However, unreasonable assembly parameters and working conditions not only can't reduce vibration, but affect the stable operation of rotor-bearing system, even excessive engine vibration.At first, vibration reducing mechanism of rotor-bearing system with SFD is studied deeply in this paper. Secondly, the finite element (FE) is used to calculate and analyze the dynamic characteristic of the ERSFD and ERSFD model is set up according to the existing structural features. The SFD is simulated by element Solid95 in the model and models of their interface are set up using element Conta174 and Targe 170 respectively. Impose boundary conditions according to character of ERSFD and change the assembly tightness of elastic-ring and rigid-ring, and then obtain the maximum radial displacement and radial stiffness coefficient. Furthermore, the thickness distribution of oil film around outer cavity can be calculated according to the radial deformation of ERSFD. Then model of oil film is set up using element Fluid136, different oil films are simulated by element Fluid 136 and penetrating oil hole flow of elastic-ring is simulated by element Fluid 138. At last, impose constraints according to boundary characteristic of oil film flow field, and then damping coefficient and oil film pressure field are obtained after calculation. The results show that the non-linear characteristic of ERSFD is inconspicuous and can meet the needs of project only when elastic-ring and rigid-ring are interference fitted, and the structural features can improve the non-linear characteristic of traditional squeeze film damper. The approach and calculation results in this paper are valuable for dynamic characteristic study of damping system of the same type.
