A Research On The Necessity For User Participation In The Process Of Urban Housing Space Design

User participation, namely"the persent house user's participation"is neither a new idea nor a new practice. In western countries, user participation has become an approach to house design since 1950s and 1960s. Our country also approached it in 1980s, actively involving house users into house building. With the arrival of 21st century, urban residents'standard of living in our country has greatly improved from being warm and full to being slightly wealthy. Their home life has developed to an extremely rich and various situation rather than a monotonous state in 1980s and 1990s. Nowadays, there exist in our country clashes between urban residents'living demands as well as changing of housing models and designing of residential space. In addition, estate agents are eager to make desirable profits via developing housing causes, and produce astonishing effects by propagandizing some fresh notions to make great achievements, which to some degree hinder the further development of urban housing in our country. This paper starts from the urban residents'living behaviours and participating intention, studies the necessity for user participation in the process of urban housing space design via analysing the relationship between their living behaviours as well as participation intention and the development of residential space and designing methods.This paper firstly studies some relevant theories on housing and living behaviours. It also summaries the developing situation of urban housing and urban residents'changes in urban living behanvious. Secondly, it deeply analyses the relationship between residential space and living behaviours as well as user participation. It objectively surveys the urban residents'present housing condition and participating intention by means of questionnaire and going to the residents'homes, hence learning about the degree of content of housing space and adaption situations to the functions of it. Finally, the writer attempts to put forward some strategies and suggestions for maximum housing and urban house design on the basis of studying some relevant domestic and foreign theories and practices on user participation in residential space design, and combining the results from questionnaire.This is a basic study on the style of user participation in the methods of housing design. It takes the form of research and analysis to strengthen the necessity for user participation in the process of urban housing space design. It aims at exploring effective approaches to improving residential surroundings and conditions, hence satisfying the residents in terms of housing space design suitable for their living style.
