As Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has the advantages of low cost, no casualties, high maneuverability and can be used repeatedly, it is widely welcomed by the army all over the world and has developed rapidly in recent years. The research in the paper is mainly on design and development of a small UAV and ground-based measuring & controlling software, which is based on self-making DSP hardware platform, and joint test simulation experiment of the whole system. After summary of characteristic, use, classification and applications in the war of UAV, the subject source and research contents are introduced. In the paper, functional requirements of UAV airborne software is analyzed and the framework of airborne software is designed in detail. According to the modularization design concept, the entire airborne software is divided into nine functional modules such as core management, serial communication, periodic tasks, control output, fault-tolerant control function and so on. The programming development if each module is accomplished in mixed-language programming and the design is validated by debugging of each module. In addition, the anti-interference measure used in the software is introducedBased on LabVIEW platform, design and development of the ground-based measuring & controlling software which has the functions such as instruction upload, data binding, telemetry data receiving and display, data storage, playback and so on is made. It could realize the functions of ground-based testing and remote control and telemetry.According to joint test simulation experiment of ground-based measuring & controlling software and airborne software, the functions of airborne software are tested and debugged. The results prove that each module could work in good coordination and has better real-time ability and fault tolerance ability. And it could accomplish various controlling tasks set in advance. Consequently, the airborne software and ground-based measuring & controlling software both satisfy the design demands of the subject.
