The ultrasonic motor is a new-type motor which is driven by piezoelectric material. Compared with traditional electromagnetic motor, it posses a lot of merits such as fast response, directly-driving without reducer, high orientation precision, low speed and big torque, locking itself without electricity, free of magnetic interference etc, which bring it wide application in aeronautic and astronautic field, robot, automobile etc. In existing studies on USM,the effect of temperature-rising in working station has been considered less. It makes the difference between theory study and actual situation.In this paper, TRUM-60 ring type traveling-wave USM is selected to be studied. Based on a series of assumed conditions, experiments on temperature characteristic of USM are designed. According to experiments, the theory model of heat generation of USM is established from the point of view of dynamics. The temperature distribution is simulated by ANSYS. The main research contents and results are as follows:1. Experiments on temperature characteristics of TRUM-60 ring type traveling-wave USM are designed. The relationship between temperature rise, pre-pressure and thickness and hardness of friction material is studied. The main heat sources are analyzed.2. The effect of temperature rise on mechanical characteristics is studied.3. The experiment on heat resistance of USM is designed. Temperature range USM can work well and invalidation of USM with high temperature are studied.4. According to the experiments, theory model of heat generation of USM is established from point of view of dynamics. The main parameters having effect on the heat generation of USM are analyzed.5. Simulation of temperature field is done by ANSYS. The results of experiments, theory model and simulation are compared.
