China is at the west coast of the Pacific Ocean,which is often attacked by typhoon.Chinese southeastern coastal region which have big population and developed economy is one of the region most severely influenced by typhoon in the world. Since 1990's,total economic loss of typhoon increased every year. By the investgation of wind hazard,a large number of low-rise buildings damage is the main cause of great losses.Therefore,it is of practical significance and theoretical value to research wind load characteristics and vulnerability of low-rise residential buildings in typhoon.In this paper,based on the wind load characteristics of low-rise residential buildings,the vulnerability model according to main failure modes of low-rise buildings in typhoon was present.The vulnerability of low-rise residential buildings were analyzed at wind speed of different return periods and directions.General introduction of theory and method about computational wind engineering,which includes basic controlling equation,Reynolds time-averaged equations and realizable k-εturbulent model.According to fluid calculation software Fluent,study on the effects of wind loads on low-rise residential buildings.It reveled the principle of the changes of the surface pressures with roof slope,building geometry,eave configuration and wind direction.Analysis of vulnerability model of low-rise residential buildings in typhoons,which was taken into account of wind load in typhoons,the method to analyse failure modes,and damage classification for low-rise residential buildings induced by typhoon.Numerical examples of practical engineering in southern-east coast of China were calculated to get the failare probability of envelop of structures in different wind speed and direction.The vulnerability of these low-rise residential buildings was also analuzed.The results of the fore-mentioned research works give reference for wind-resistant design of low-rise building in typhoon region.
