Based on the date of full-scale measurements, modeling wind tunnel tests and theoretical researches of the wind loads on low-rise buildings available, involved the date of the wind tunnel test and computational numerical simulation fulfilled in this paper, the effects of wind loads on low-rise buildings have been studied systematicaly and extensively. It reveled properly the principle of the changes of the surface mean pressures, local pressures, and fluctuating pressures with the building geometry, roof type and slope, wind direction, eave configuration, cladding system, and dominate openings. On the fundament of this and field investigations of the buildings damage in the areaes of Typhoon disastes, the main factors that effect the wind-resistance capability of low-rise buildings have been analysed and discussed, the wind-resistance design method and multi-criterions founded with the needs of different reliabilities have been proposed on low-rise buildings,as well as the conceptional design methods and construction configuations. In the last of this paper, a typhoon-resistance showhouse of low-rise buildings has been designed and constructed to prove and apply the results of researches obtained in this paper. It is also a demonstration to the design and construction of wind-resistance low-rise buildings in coast areaes. The problem of how to improve the resistance of low-rise buildings against typhoon forces is very important to the south-east coast area of our country and the results in this paper can to be the reference of the codification of design wind loads and construction of buildings against typhoon forces.
