Nowadays technique of ship CAD is developing toward collaboration, intelligence, parallel, network, virtualization and standardization, which makes the process of ship structural design achieve a high degree of automation. A number of ship design CAD softwares can improve our quality of ship design, shorten ship building period, reduce shipbuilding cost, speed up research and development of new ships, accelerate renewal product of ship products, and enhance the competition of building yards.However, the softwares buyed by our customers are extremely expensive and different country has its own standards that result in low efficiency in the use of software and enhance our ship design and shipbuilding costs. Therefore, in order to improve the quality and efficiency of ship design, it is urgent to make a research and develop a set of ship CAD software suitable for our own. In this paper, based on the domestic and foreign application of ship CAD software analyzed, the ship design, shipbuilding methods and CAD software development technology researched, combining in specific design with shipbuilding norms, a chemical tanker CAD design system is put forward. Finally, using VB programming technology and relating applications program ActiveX technology develops a set of CAD system softwares about chemical vessel approve design. The system mainly concludes 3 sub-system of the ship output module. The main function is: ship equipment data storage and share, ship engine specification formula, the calculation and selection of ship equipment, ship engineer approval documents output automatically and so on.In this paper, the chemical vessel CAD system is designed with separate modules in accordance with different functions, and the sub-systems are made of friendly interactive interface. According to the purposes and methods, program codes will be divided into different modules to manage. As a result of this distributed form, designers can not only facilitate the procedures for the preparation and integration, but also can increase the speed and efficiency of the code. Through the actual testing use of operation, the CAD systems greatly enhanced the efficiency of ship design, and reduce the approval design time. Since some areas needed to be manually prepared and drawn in the process of human interaction design, and different type of database and drawing template files also added, then research and development of this CAD system also will be updated and enhanced, with the practical application of the continuation in the future.
