| Urban construction through the established boundaries under the background of rapid construction and development. Those large-scale ancient ruins which once beyonged to the city had gradually entered the urban areas or the buiit-up area,so they were effected by the urban development.《The overall urban planning of Xi'an 2008-2020》has identified nine-region patterns and multi-center decentralized structure,that not only heritaged the historical context, but also provided a space for urban development in future. However,the relics conservation and urban renewal have becoming an irreconcilable conflict with the rapid economic development. Xi'an is one of the world historical and cultural city, we have to take action to protect the great ruins and its surroundings effectively and enhance the sustainable development of regions as a whole.In the dissertation,firstly, the problem and its cause of urban ruins area in our country are introduced which based on the study of the characteristics of urban ruins area. Secondly, analying the Darning Palace ruins region, including social, demographic, infrastructure, building style , ecological environment and residents quality of life, to diagnosing the main existen issues, development constraints and the power for the relics conservation and urban renewal in this region. In the third part, with the theoretical basis for continuity in history and culture,organic updated, sustainable development,in accordance with the zoning regulation and the principle of gradual and orderly progress, the thought of entire conservation and renewal and the "urban cultural park" protected mode and landscape mode of a small community response is put up. Finally, several solutions are proposed that including the adjustment for the region's functional structure and layout, construction and development of cultural industries and intensity control, landscape and environmental character, community and ecological environment construction for Darning Palace ruins region.
