In recent years, owing to the sustained development of the global economy, the demand of the world marine transportation has increased unceasingly, which makes the international shipping market has rare prosperous upsurge; this has also brought new opportunities to the development of our country's shipbuilding industry. Faced with such a rare opportunity, the problems needed to be solved immediately in the shipbuilding industry are to accelerate upgrading the level of ship design and to establish the modern shipbuilding pattern. Based on this, the thesis has researched and designed the 3D hull library system to use in the conceptual design for the ship's hull and has obtained the preliminary success.3D hull library system is a complicated system integrating various kinds of software techniques including three-dimensional modeling technology, database technology, parameter driving design technique, etc. Based on the overall functions analysis of 3D hull library system, the discussion focused on the structural design of system's database, database interface technology, and developed a system's management module and the mother-ship transformation module. The system uses the relational database software SQL Server 2000 for the establishment of a database which used for saving the hull information. Taking Visual Basic 6.0 as the development tools and it has established the succinct, convenient and friendly human-computer interface. With the ship design software MAXSURF as the support platform, EXCEL and VBA as the development tools to carry out the secondary development to MAXSURF and has realized the mother-ship transformation function.3D hull library system which researched in this thesis can achieve the anticipated functions such as: hull model saving into the database, hull model reading out of the database, hull information browsing, hull inquiring and the mother-ship transformation function, and so on. Using the system users can achieve efficient management of the hulls, using the mother-ship transformation module can realize the hull transforming function, and in accordance with the users' requirements to create goal hulls quickly which speed up the designing process greatly. It is of great significance in the shipbuilding industry which is continuing to thrive today as using this system can reduce development costs and shorten designing time.
