Research Into Modeling Methods Basing On Product Image Information Base

With the development of the information age, unprecedented challenges are facing the traditional industrial design methods, shortening the product development cycle and improving design efficiency has become an important issue for designers, various kinds of new design methods have thus emerged, among which the Design Professional Knowledgebase is the very effective one.The goal of this research is to collect a large quantity of information about product images to establish a professional knowledge base - the Product Image Database, through which we explored new thinking about industrial design configuration on the one hand, and on the other, designers can refer to this database for lots of information about product design to improve design efficiency greatly.This paper is comprised of four parts:(1) On the basis of probing into configuration of industrial design and basic configuration methods, this paper presents a new configuration method which is based on the Product Image Database;(2) Concept of the Product Image Database is proposed and basic content and functions of the image database are mapped out, the image database is mainly composed of two parts-image samples and descriptions of samples;(3) This is the main part of this thesis, in which the Product Image Database is constructed. First of all, a large amount of samples are selected and classified as per reasonable principle, and descriptions from aspects of shape, material, color, function, structure, technology, and human-product interaction are added to the samples; after that, problems about constructing the database is analyzed, basing on which, way of realizing, constructing method and steps of the database are probed, and the application platform is established.(4) Ways of information selecting and screening from this image database is analyzed, and detailed instructions and steps of the database is given; at the end, a practical design case of "the future-style fan" is studied using this database, demonstrating that the Product Image Database is one of the effective configuration method of industrial design.Through the research of this thesis, the Product Image Database is established and applied, new thinking of configuration of industrial design is explored, and the industrial design method and thinking are improved.
