The universal small utility gasoline engine is refers the gasoline engine which is not used on vehicle and other special usages, it is mainly about achievement farming and forestry plant protection machinery, small agricultural machine and tool etc. It has many characteristics such as the slight volume, the light weight, easy to use and maintenance, the inexpensive price and so on; it is welcomed by many users. As for the growing demand for the universal small utility gasoline engine, it is imperative to optimize its performance analysis. Related to the analysis improvement and optimization, the first and foremost task is to measure the various parameters when the engine is working. This requires using a special test equipment to complete.With virtual instrument technology development, the testing equipment is becoming increasingly flexible; this will help users to set up their own needs for their own testing system. They do not need to change the hardware or only need change very small, and the test system can been expanded, modified and upgraded. The whole testing system is flexibility, low cost and high efficiency.The author uses the NI LabVIEW software and the NI-DAQ hardware which is closely integrated to LabVIEW as the foundation. Combine with the KISTLER measuring spark plug with integrated cylinder pressure sensor and the ELTRA TECH optical encoder to establish a high speed virtual instrument data acquisition system for the universal small utility gasoline engine. This system can acquire and record original data in the engine cylinder and can generate the report for the researcher. Because the format of data file which is generated by this system is the universal format, so it is easy to exchange the experimentation date to other software such as computing software and plotting software, it enhance the system performance.Applying this test system on the experimentation of universal small utility gasoline engine, it validates that the test system is point design; it achieves the purpose of design and development.
