With the increasing stringent emission legislation, it is always a hot topic of diesel engine research for the investigation of emission control technology to meet emission legislation of each phase. There is a Trade-off relation between NOx and particulate (PM) emissions for diesel engine due to its spray diffusion combustion process, so it is difficult to decrease NOx and PM emission at the same time for diesel engine emission control. China Phaseâ…¢emission standard will be put into practice in 2007, it is a stringent and difficult task to meet China Phaseâ…¢emission standard for our diesel engine industry.A series of experimental study were carried out on a YC6G240-30 Electronic Unit Pump diesel engine until it meet China Phaseâ…¢emission legislation in this paper, including combustion process optimized matching, electronic calibration and whole engine emission optimized. And it is successful to pass Chinese Phaseâ…¢emission type approval test. Firstly, based on the analysis of the original performance and emission, the optimized matching schemes of fuel injection system and intake system were put forward, and then new combustion chambers were designed. The optimized matching scheme of combustion systems was conformed by comparing the Trade-off relation between BNOX-Smoke and BNOX-BSFC from changing injection timing test and considering performance,emission and reliability of the engine comprehensively. And then based on the foregoing work, the experimental study of electronic calibration was carried out to confirm a series of MAP, including injection timing controlled MAP, fuel supplying quality controlled MAP, transient air-fuel ratio limit controlled MAP and free accelerating smoke controlled MAP. Finally, the experimental study of whole engine emission optimized was carried out to determine the ultimate engine controlled MAP according to the results of the China Phaseâ…¢emission legislation ESC test. Furthermore, Chinese Phaseâ…¢emission type approval test was carried out and its result is showed as follows: NOX:4.948 g/kW.h,PM:0.098 g/kW.h,HC:0.364 g/kW.h,CO:0.763 g/kW.h,ELR:0.361m-1. Obviously, the result has achieved China Phaseâ…¢emission legislation successfully. In the experimental study of optimized matching, the experimental investigation on the effect of combustion system parameters on combustion characteristic was carried out and a new low emission combustion chamber structure was put forward. It can be used as a combustion chamber scheme of diesel engine to meet more stringent emission legislation because it changed the Trade-off relation of NOX-Smoke.In this paper, a complete domestic-made diesel engine is successful to meet China Phaseâ…¢emission standard. The research results are helpful to research and develop China Phaseâ…¢diesel engine independently, so it is great practicality in engineering.
