On The Historical Culture Block-Qingdao Baguanshan-Yushan Block

Based on the live survey and historical documents, implementing the historical evolution process as the horizontal ordinate and the geographical culture elements as the verticle ordinate, this paper does an integral and systemic investigation on the historical and geographical meaning, and the current protection and inheritance of the famous Baguanshan-Yushan block, the core historical culture blocks of Qingdao city.This paper has six chapters.The first chapter is an introduction. This chapter gives a brief introduction of the topic selection basis, research aim, research method, research thinking and current research situation home and abroad.Chapter 2 describes the spatial construction of Baguanshan-Yushan block. In this chapter, the author elaborates the spatial distribution of all historical cultural blocks in Qingdao and the location, range, spatial construction and possessed cultural elements of BaguanShan-Yushan block.Chapter 3 describes the historical evolution of BaguanShan-Yushan block. Using Qingdao urban planning and space expansion as the background, this chapter gives a detail description of the historical growth thread, historical geographical elements of the block and its influence to the city development.Chapter 4 describes the urban function and cultural connotation of BaguanShan-Yushan block. The investigation shows how the block could combine the port city function and seafaring culture, education function and elite culture, municipal central function and architectural culture, citizen life function and citizen culture together as an integration culture of itself, and the way the block brings into play its main function in the city development distribution.Chapter 5 describes the protection and utilization value of the Baguanshan-Yushan block. This chapter analyzes the current situation of the block and the problem during its development. After comparing several protections and utilization models for national historical cultural block, the author brings up the protection meaning, principle and some suggestions.Chapter 6 gives a conclusion that the Baguanshan-Yushan block is a valuable historical legacy. Only when we fully understand its past and protect its current situation can we inherit the future from it.The innovation of this paper is expressed in the following three points:1. It's the first time in literacy to investigate a city's block from the historical and geographical perspective. Such an investigation not only refines the academic field created by elder generation historian and geographer(i.e. Hourenzhi), but also expands and enriches the mono-perspective of modem urbanology, architecture, aesthetics, tourism science and legacy protection science.2. It's the first time to investigate such a historical cultural block beyond the traditional investigation target-the Zhongshan block.3. It's the first time to bound BaguanShan and Yushan together as a whole historical cultural block, to restore the inseparable property of their historical formation, urban landscape, culture connotation and functional sturcture.This paper provides the most original, real, essential and core evidence for the protection of the block. The investigation provides also a case for the historical block research of Qingdao, and it bridges historical blocks protection and urban old buildings protection, historical cities protection.
