It is extremely urgent to resolve the fleet assignment problem in major airlines with rapid developing of the domestic civil aviation and growth of the airlines'scale. Airplanes scheduling problem has been studied early abroad, but the domestic situation is different. The home background is more complex. The number of aircrafts is less in domestic major airlines, however, the types of aircrafts is more. Therefore, the foreign research methods are not suitable for internal condition.Firstly, Air China Limited is considered as an example of major airlines home. The background condition of fleet assignment problem in domestic major airlines is showed in details. The research progress and conclusion is introduced in international civil aviation field. The scheduling principle is abstracted and then the mathematical model is taken form.Secondly, the continued exploration and successes by stages achieved by the project team attaching to the aircrafts scheduling problem, which this research work in this paper is subordinated to, is descript. The model is more reasonably optimized. The heuristic algorithm solution is improved to solve the scheduling problem more effectively. It is turned out by experiments than the improved solution and the optimized model works better.Applying the optimized model and the improved algorithm to design the fleet assignment software system of major airlines based on web, which has been realized. Its effect is better than scheduling results before. Finally, the innovation is emphasized. Then the development prospects of the issues and the direction of next exploration is raised up.
