Laser guide bomb is an effective weapon that can attack target accurately. Based on common bomb, by introducing laser semi-active seeking guide system,laser guide bomb can track the target and control the bomb. After lauching, laser guide bomb can still track the target and hit the target in small CEP. It's configuration simple, low cost,power giant and potency great. It's the most equipped accurate guide space-to-ground weapon and is of great importance to modern space-to-ground attacking war.The most important part of laser guide bomb is IR seeker. In this paper, a new type of IR upconversion seeker was designed using IR upconversion material. Basic model of IR upconversion seeker was put forward and a new type of low cost seeker scheme was introduced for laser guide bomb. The main innovation of this paper is the introducing of the design of a new type of seeker. It can change the detecting of IR into detecting of Visible. The application range of Visible detector was enlarged and the cost of seeker was reduced.The main content of this paper include:1. Analysed the upconversion principle and classification of upconversion material. Introduced several common upconversion substrate materials and rare earth luminescent ions. According to the analysis of material, Y2O3(Er3+) was selected as upconversion luminescent material of upconversion seeker.2. A basic model of IR upconversion seeker was presented and its main configuration was selected and designed. Selected and designed the filter coating and calculated the trassmision mode of illuminating laser in the air.3. Designed the experiment of testing IR upconversion material. Tested the basic optical parameters of the upconversion seeker material, including absorption band, upconversion luminescent band, upconversion efficiency and decay time of fluorescence. Analysed the relationship between upconversion luminescence and exciting light.4. Key technology in designing IR upconversion seeker was put forward and basic requirement of designing upconversion seeker was raised. An approximate error analysis of received Laser model of IR upconversion seeker was presented. Several advices of practical application of IR upconversion seeker was given.
