Substation fault recording system is the main equipment for recording the transient process of power system.Better performance is required of the fault recorder along with the development of power system. The great evolution of software and hardware technology of computer,GPS,Ethernet,Digital Signal Processor nested computer and some software technology such as Object-Orient Programming provides the essential condition for the improvement of fault recorder.A design scheme of fault recorder with high performances based on the above technologies is presented,including its hardware and software structure and functions. The field tests show that the proposed device has many advantages,such as multi-monitoring-channel,high sampling frequency,good real-time performance,large data transmission capability and so on. The new recorder realizes the recording authenticity,completeness and reliability.Hardware design:CPU of 32 bits of MOTOROLA and DSP of high speed are adopted in order to realize high precision numerical calculation and Ethernet comm. The system adopts IRIG-B format synchronized with GPS. Software design, consists of fault recording software, including functional modules of Ethernet comm,data remote transmission, interface design, fault line selection, fault phase selection, fault locating,digital filtering, reportforms printing, database management,etc.
