The fault locating is an important function of the distribution automation system, and the single phase grounding fault happens frequently in the distribution network, so study on the method of single phase grounding fault locating plays an important role in reducing the range of outage, shortening the time of outage, and supplying level of power bureau.A new method about fault section locating and a new method about accurate fault locating are studied in this article. First, in order to solve the problem of single phase grounding fault section locating, a new method based on zero sequence current of sections is proposed in this article. The method is simple in theory, easy to be carried out. Then, in order to solve the problem of single phase grounding accurate fault locating, a new method based on fault component is proposed in this article. The method is not influenced by load current, and it's precision of fault locating is good. Simulation experiments with ATP-EMTP and data processing with MATLAB demonstrate that the proposed method is correct. At last, a single phase grounding fault locating software is designed and developed with the Delphi.
