Along with the development of our country's economy, the property of the power demand in city power grid is very serious in today's China. It is estimated that cooling of buildings contributes about 30% to the China peak electrical power consumption in the summer. Ice storage technology is a method of shifting cooling loads from on-peak periods when electrical energy and demand are high, to off-peak periods when the cost of electrical energy is significantly lower and demand charges are low or often not applied at all. Ice storage systems are developing rapidly in recent years.The main purpose of this paper is to study the performance of ice generation and ice melt of internal melt ice-on-coil thermal storage system. Firstly, we designed a cylinder ice-on-coil tank with aluminum plastic tube. Then we produced an ice storage air conditioning system by ourselves, which assisted with compressor, evaporator, condenser, throttle, valves for controlling charging and discharging, fan coil unit (FCU) and so on. The working liquid of system is R22, and the ice-making medium is ethylene glycol.Secondly according to the experiment data, the paper discussed the performance of ice generation and ice melt for the cylinder ice-on-coil tank.At last, according to the experiment data and system parameter, the simulation program of the ice-on-coil tank was established with MATLAB/SIMULINK. On the basis of the simulation results, the performance of coil made by different materials and diameter were discussed.
