This paper summarizes the meaning of offshore structure health inspection, gener-alizes the present situation of damage detection techniques, briefly describes most of the local non-damage testing and analyzes those testing methods'application context. This paper provides a new non-damage testing method based on the thermal image , further tests this method in mathematics model and physics models and addresses image proc-essing technique according to the thermal photo features.Infrared non-damage testing exerts infrared measures and technology to detect in-struments,materials and other subjects based on the principles of infrared radiation. The essence of infrared testing method is to gauge the temperature which has some advan-tages such as non-contact,safe-operation,high-sensitivity and high-efficiency. There are two categories of infrared testing on the basis of heating stimulations which are respec-tive active testing and passive testing. This article provides a new method of hearting stimulation—dot matrix hearing .In the present, the thermal wave dominates the stimu-lations methods which can be applied during the inner defects circumstances but cannot be suitable for the facial crevice. The new method provided by this paper can not only detect the component's inner defects but also be capable of facial crevice by testing the method in a mathematics model; further this article verifies this method in a physics model .This article uses some photo processing techniques to make the thermal images more clear to identify the defects. This method can discover the defects, but it takes further study to quantitatively determine the damage. The infrared testing will tend to be mature with the development of electric information technique and image processing technique, thus it will be widely used in near future.
