As a harmonic mitigation device, passive filter has been widely used in power system due to its advantages of simple structure, the reliability and less investment. But the filtering performance is sensitive to the detuning caused by the change of system frequency and filter' s parameters. This paper researches a self-tuning filter based on the MVCR in order to compensate the detuning and limit excessive harmonic current. In this thesis, the basic structure and the operation principle of magnetic valve controllable reactor are studied, and the mathematic model is also established. An effective method of restraining the harmonics of the controllable reactor poured into power grid itself by using phase-shifting winding is presented. Furthermore, the high speed excitation of magnetic valve controllable reactor is also discussed. Fuzzy control strategy is first adopted to achieve the self-tuning of passive filter. The EMTDC/PSCAD based simulation results verify the effectiveness and correctness of the proposed scheme.
