In this thesis, stress analysis and calculation in the finite element for a large oxidized reactor in service in the PTA industry are finished by ANSYS software. The thesis's main tasks are as follows. Firstly, 3-D finite element model of the oxidized reactor is built through the detail analysis of reactor structure and its technical condition and following the relevant design codes. Secondly, modal analysis of the whole model is analyzed and then the vibration characteristics of the reactor are obtained. Thirdly, the influences of various loads that impose on the oxidized reactor are studied separately. The loads include internal pressure, gravity, static liquid pressure, wind load, earthquake load and temperature load and that several basic load cases corresponding each load to be separately put on the oxidized reactor are set up, as well as, stress intensity under all the load cases can be gotten by combining load cases. Finally, according to JB4732-1995《Steel Pressure Vessels-Design By Analysis》based on the finite element calculation result, the stress evaluation for the whole oxidized reactor and its main parts are performed. The whole stress results calculated of the oxidized reactor under the internal pressure are consistent with ones from theoretical formula. Some results of the analysis about the stress distribution and the effects of loads are also in accordance with ones of some classical theories, which show that the finite element model constructed in this thesis is reasonable and its result is reliable. Additionally, in comparison with stress intensity under different loads, the internal pressure is the greatest impact on overall stress intensity of the oxidized reactor. The results of the finite element analysis of the equipment show that the oxidized reactor can meet the strength requirement and the reactor in service is safe. The analytical results are of a certain referenced value to the domestic design of relevant equipments.
