Grading of coal gangue is adjusted according to the relative proportions of fine and coarse grain to investigate its road performance. On the base of analysis on the basic physical and chemic properties of coal gangue, researches about road performance of coal gangue mixture with various fine and coarse grain content , characteristics of grain crashing, compaction, swelling and collapse , permeability, water stability, bearing capacity, shear strength of coal gangue mixed with soil, etc, are experimentally performed.Test results show that road performance of coal gangue is controlled by granularity grading character and characteristics of grain crashing. Coal gangue with about 50% fine grain proportions has the biggest compaction dry density, lesser crushing rate, higher growth speed of dry density, lesser and more steady permeability coefficient at the same compaction energy. Compressive modulus and shearing properties of coal gangue mixed with about 10% soil are enhanced effectively. The strength and deforming properties of coal gangue mixture with different fine and coarse grain proportions under static load are also investigated in the paper. Statistical methods are applied to determine the relation of the mechanical parameters of coal gangue among the resilient modulus, degree of compaction, CBR, maximum dry density, optimum moisture content and so on. It is showed that, the resilient modulus roughly estimated by the relation of CBR or degree of compaction is of reference importance for design and construction.
