A Study On The Application Of Chinese Traditional Cultural Symbols In Architectural Design

For China, how to reflect the Chinese traditional culture and not to be lack of"modernity"in architectural design, which is plagued Chinese architects and people who concerned about China's architectural design is a"serious"issue. The thought about culture makes us worn out. How to achieve the expression and communication of culture? Symbols have played a key role. Ernst Cassirer said, human are animals of symbols. The use of symbolic language has become one of basic methods of human expression and communication. In a sense, people identify culture through symbols. Culture is"collective narration"about symbols, and symbol is"memory"of culture."Interludes"and"Reconstruction"of the symbolic culture on the forms of architectural design give buildings a new language of architectural culture, making it a new significance.Any"new creation"can't be cut off the links of traditional culture, and traditional culture everywhere is expressed on architectural design has become a broad consensus in the world. Therefore, how to manifest traditional culture better in the modern design has become a hot question in architectural design field. We need to study the essence of art design thought in modern western countries, while more attention should be paid to inherit and carry the"mainstay"of traditional culture in China, to apply tradition untraditionally, to express tradition. The Chinese traditional cultural symbols is a traditional cultural forms of"memory", which are classical pieces that record the history of China, and the significance lies in its historical and cultural nature.This paper is to study the application of Chinese traditional cultural symbols that bear the Chinese traditional culture in contemporary Chinese architecture in the perspective of semiotics, to see what can be produced on building, looking for a possibility to express their"Modern"for Chinese architectural design, in order to give a kind of use of symbols on architectural design and an expression on the significance of semiotics, contributing to the"hug"of symbols and architectural design. Based on the combination of elements of Chinese ancient historical culture and architectural design and the use in architectural design, we interpret the cultural connotation of architecture and consider the combination of national culture, historical culture and architecture etc. as such problems, thereby discuss the status and the future of Chinese architecture, to pursue contemporary architecture belonging to China in a real sense. Through such a process of reflection and exposition, what kind of architecture can be appear in China which is with profound cultural background on land, in order to better reflect Chinese traditional culture of architecture, rather than a proxy of Western architectural forms, walking out of blind worship and imitation, to think about for Chinese architecture.
