Ornamental grasses are often most effective in landscape designs that allow them to interplay with other plants including trees, shrubs and diversified flowers. Ornamental grasses can not only be used in parterres, borders, but also be used as ground cover plants in gardens, parks; They can make a big areas sight if be planted flakily or in group. Ornamental grasses show dynamic and rhythmical beauty by Plant type, line texture, type and color of flower, texture and color of leaf, which different from other landscape plants obviously. Most of ornamental grasses resist drought, cold, marsh, shade, high temperature, and alkali-salina, maintained easily. So, ornamental grass, as a new kind of ornamental plant, had great value in the construction of city landscape, country green spaces and ecological environment.The research on ornamental grasses is at initial stage, indeed a blank paper in northwest areas.In this paper, The primary investigate and research of main resources of ornamental grasses in Shaanxi Province were concerned. The wild ornamental grasses resources were also evaluated using gray-correlation analysis to filtrate ornamental grasses with better adaptability and beautiful view for developing native ornamental grasses resources effectively. The further investigate with several wild ornamental grasses in Wei river drainage area were made, the developing characteristic of them were found out concretely. The use of them in landscape design be groped for preliminarily. And ornamental grass, as a new kind of ornamental plant with unique value, if they have ornamental value and feasible application had discussed by the numbers. Main results of this study are as follows:1. In resources of ornamental grasses in Shaanxi Province, Arund donax, Miscanthus sacchariflorus, Typha minima, Kochia scoparia, etc have better ornamental effects and their correlation degree with the idea species were 0.791 7,0.773 0,0.796 4和0.822 2; 88% of 32 gramineous ornamental grasses can resist drought, and the correlation degree of only 7 species were lower than 0.6; The correlation degree with ideal species of 38 in involved ornamental grasses of 50 were higher than 0.6. Arund donax, Miscanthus sacchariflorus, Typha minima, Kochia scoparia, etc can be used for landscaping directly; Most of 50 ornamental grasses have potential value, and drought-resistant ornamental plants can be developed from gramineous ornamental grasses.2. Wei river drainage area has abundant resources of ornamental grasses, but few of them were developed. Ornamental grasses have great adaptability, grow normally in wild condition without maintenance, even if meet bad circumstance. However, to a certain extent this may make loss of sight. Unfamiliar Ornamental grasses, especially, foreign species, like Eragrostis curvula, should be observed and understand their status which can provide references for design. Adaptability is passive resistance, not best demand. For instance, Imperata cylindrical may grow better with shade, similar condition can be provide in the economic area when design. water may have influence on plant form. Plant may grow tenuously with more water, like Miscanthus sacchariflorus. This can be used for design sometimes.3. Ornamental grasses have symbolic and high aesthetic value, and a variety of applications forms, but the use of them is on the preliminary stage. Many designers still have no deep understand of ornamental grasses. The application of ornamental grasses in Landscape is mot widely, and application form is single with few species.
