Nowadays, "design for people" is one of the most important principles of the landscape planning and design. But the humanism design is usually the slogan in china, and the actual researches are rather lacking. At the same time, the inharmonic phenomena and persistent arguments often appear between professional people and unprofessional people during building and managing the gardens. So it is necessary revealing the differences of professional people's and unprofessional people's knowing environment and the origin of conflict between the designer and user. This article compares the differences that two groups of people whose culture background is different evaluate the same environment, using the theories of environmental psychology and the methods of Subjective Evaluation of Built Environment (SEBE). This evaluation object is the campus of Three Gorges University in Yichang, Hubei. Based on the evaluation result, this article analyses the differences of the two groups of people's knowing environment, and deduces the reasons of the differences between designer's ideality and user's need. This can give some references to the designers and the people that research the similar problems. At the same time, the campus of Three Gorges University can be evaluated scientifically, and be given some advices to improve the actuality. This article consists of five parts:The first part is the exordium and the introduction of the correlative theories. It mainly defines the research purpose, significance, content, method, technical course and so on. Moreover, it induces and generalizes the contents that relate to this research and come from environmental psychology and Subjective Evaluation of Built Environment. The second part clarifies the research project and preparations. The primary contents include the field survey, the exploratory research that takes the form of free interview, putting forward the research hypotheses, confirming the evaluation subjects, choosing the particular evaluation methods and so on.The third part is designing the questionnaire about the evaluation of the campus of Three Gorges University. This evaluation adopts the manner which combines quantitative study and qualitative study. First, the evaluation factor set of the campus of Three Gorges University is established. Then, the questionnaire is designed in the form of Likert Scale, and combines the open-ended question to make up the deficiency of this kind of scale. In the fourth part, the investigative results are analyzed systematically. It mainly includes two aspects: the first one compares the evaluation results of the professional group and the unprofessional group. The comparison adopts these methods such as comparing mean and standard deviation, one-way variance analysis, Chi-Squire analysis, correlation analysis, factor analysis, regression analysis and so on. At the same time, the answers of the open-ended questions are analyzed by counting word frequency. These analyses demonstrate that the professional students' evaluation and unprofessional students' evaluation are different. The differences are brought by the distinction of their backgrounds in the majors. Besides, the material representations of these differences are expounded in detail. The second one is the evaluation of the campus of Three Gorges University. This article attempts to apply the method, which combines Analytical Hierarchy Process and factor analysis, to calculate the weights, and apply fuzzy mathematics to carry out the comprehensive evaluation. The results indicate that this experiment is rather successful. At last, the evaluation of the campus is grade E4, namely better. Simultaneously, some advices are given to improve the campus environment. The fifth part is the discussion. Based on the above investigative results and own experiences, this article infers the differences of professional people's and unprofessional people's knowing environment, analyses their reasons, and gives some correlative advices. Besides, this part discusses the limitations and the improvable directions of this research.
