With the space form of atrium is wildly used in public architectures, its indoor thermal environment and energy consumption has become more and more important. This thesis studied thermal properties and energy-saving strategies by using computer simulation method.firstly, the thermal environment characteristics of atrium were analyzed by measurement in real atria. Secondly, computer program ECOTECT is used to simulate the indoor thermal environment of different types of atrium buildings to show that various architectural factors, including orientation, plan style and etc., have great significances on the thermal amenity. Secondly, several approaches were put forward for optimize atrium thermal conditions. For the energy efficiency part, firstly, computer program PKPM is used to simulate the energy consumption of different types of atrium buildings in three climate zooms to show that various architectural factors can impact energy-saving to different extents. Secondly, the main conclusions are as following:(1) The area of the surface of main buildings has great significance on air conditioning load.(2) For the glass curtain wall, sheltering benefits northern buildings while heat insulation is more suitable for southern buildings. Sheltering and heat insulation for atrium roofs will reduce air conditioning load generally. In the last part, energy-conservation measures were put forward respectively and the defects of the study and works which should be completed in the future were concluded.
