A large amount of housing was being built in China, and the residential floor has a direct impact on the distribution and consumption of resources. In 2006, the Construction Departments put forwards the proviso of controlling the housing area, which contributed directly to the compact residential building floor design. It is essential to ponder the design of compact residential building floor in this situation.This dissertation choices the Shanghai residential building floor to analyze the main points of compact residential design , meanwhile forecasts development trends of the Shanghai compact residential building floor.Basing on the retrospect of the development of design in Shanghai compact residential building floor, the dissertation researches the compact residential building floor in the following three aspects: furniture,type of flat and residential building floor.Though above demonstration, the dissertation tends to three conclusions: Firstly, the development of Shanghai compact residential building floor experience three phases: passive compact, whole set compact, comfortable compact; Secondly, the compact residential building floor will realized through design of the special furniture, optimization of interior space and reasonable design of the standard floor. In addition, It is significant to think much of design of the special furniture and individuation living space, such as duplex apartment building, loft and so on.This dissertation is about the sub-topic of the research on soft-technology of economy residence system in the Yangtze River Delta district, which is supported by the Natural Science Foundation of China, (Grant No.50678120).
