Public Space In The City: Based On The Perspective Of Public Life

Public life and urban public spaces are closely related, active urban publicspaces encourage the good quality of public life. Through the observation of public life in public spaces, and further by the assessment analysis of the existing public open spaces, the paper intend to provide some recommendation for the improvement of the design of public spaces.The paper choose the case of Shanghai Daning Commercial Plaza and Zhengda Thumb Plaza, from the perspective of environmental behavior .Methods of questionnaire survey, observation survey and data analysis are used to find demands of people's activities ignored in the practical design process, which leads to the problem that public spaces are in accommodance with the public life. The demand integrated, demand of accessiblity, comfort both in physical and psychological is analyzed in depth, the paper put forward that elements in the design of commercial plaza need to focus on: integrated space systems, demand of accessiblity and comfort degree in the space.
