Machinery Industry, one of pillar industries for national economy, is liable for supply of technical equipment for national development and electromechanical appliances for people's living. China's Machinery Industry holds 14 trades and 145 branches, taking a pretty complete system for 60,000 machineries manufacture. Seen from added value, sales income and profit & tax, its product mix has transport & communication equipment, electromechanical product and universal machinery topped the first three, scaled by 30%, 25% and 16%, roughly and respectively. Its figure in turnover, profit & tax, enterprise launching and staff even accounts for one-fifth to one-fourth of national industries, accordingly, its economic aggregate ranks the 5th of China's GDP (gross domestic product).Environmental Health Standard is an issuance of technical regulation specifying limits (maximum permissible concentration/dosage) of harmful substances released in environment and their relevant requirements and measures. Under the Environmental Health Standard is an important sub-standard, that is, Width of Sanitary Protection Zone in Industrial Enterprise, which has been defined by National Health Standards Administration as a national standard after evaluation during 1980s and 1990s of reference widths suggested by 30 typical industrial professions, and indeed filled the due gap. However, the distance requirement of sanitary protection zone in machinery industry has not yet been formulated. It leads to only minute quantity of other field's concerned distance requirement is referred and applied to environmental impact assessment towards machinery industry itself. In so doing, adverse results appear as squandering territorial resources and enterprise's additional cost by over-width whereas damaging bordered people's health by under-width.The paper is to try to establish a calculation method with it to determines the sanitary protection distance in machinery industry, which is both suitable to the status quo of the industry and simple as well as easy operational through the study of the environmental impact by specific mechanical processes. The study focuses on in-depth analyses on foundry, forging, heat treatment, surface treatment, mechanical processing and other machinery manufacture processes. Taking into consideration the current production procedures and pollution counter-measures, it tries to approach pollutants generating and releasing modes, and leaches out width determination factor. Finally, specific width/distance value is calculated based on the width definition and parameters (source strength, normative datum, unit equivalent radius, etc.), and proved by examples.Through all-round analysis of the process, environment and sanitary protection distance, an applicable procedure is found to calculate the sanitary protection distance in machinery industry, which fills in the blank of the calculation method of sanitary protection distance system in machinery industry.
