To ensure sustainable and reliable electric service is the problem which engineers of power system planning and operation always pay close attention to, and, is also an important opinion scale of power system performance. In addition, with the development and complication of interconnection of bulk power grids, safety and reliable operation of power system is an important safeguard to provide high quality power. Therefore, it is necessary to research on power system reliability, especially on generation system. The paper is mainly from three aspects to systematically research on reliability of generation system.First, the interval evaluation method of generation system reliability is presented. Based on the description of the uncertainty of prime parameters about generation system, using probabilistic method and interval operation, an interval evaluation method, which can take into account the uncertainty of the parameters and is able to give all possible solutions, is adopted for evaluating generation system reliability.Second, a multi-objective function of unit maintenance scheduling (UMS) resolved by improved GA (genetic algorithm) is presented. This method, considering the uncertainty of reliability parameters of units, can take into account the economy and reliability of UMS. An improved GA, which can find an optimal solution not only economic but also reliable with the method of fitness function of improved sort, is used to seek the optimal solution instead of method of Level Risk.Third, the problem of the reliability benefits evaluation for power system interconnection is studied. Equivalent units method is adopted to analyze reliability benefits of two interconnected systems, influence factors on reliability of interconnected system is specially analyzed. The reliability benefits of bulk interconnected system which is divided into two systems, is analyzed of using methods of two interconnected system.In the end, the content of this article and the task performed by the author is summarized and the development direction and research foreground for reliability evaluation of generation system is forecasted.
