Chinese hot-summer and cold-winter zone is broad, and it has a large amount of population. The local climatic condition is extreme, while the climatic condition of outdoors is bad in particularly, so that the energy consumption of urban building environment increases. The residential community's public space is not only an important part of urban space, but also an important place where people live and communicate with each others. Enhancing the hot comfortableness of residential community's public space has the extremely vital significance to reducing the energy consumption of urban construction environment and enhancing the quality of residential community's public space. This paper began from the discussing of climate adaptability questions in residential community's public space in hot-summer and cold-winter zone, elaborated the related essential factors influencing the climate adaptability of residential community's public space: architectural contact surface, street environment, landscape environment, and servicing facility. Through the example analysis and the literature summarizing, the paper analyzed the climate adaptability's characteristics of Chinese tradition residential community's public space, as well as the measures of energy conservation and climate adaptability in overseas residential community's public space. In this foundation, the author investigated the sustainability of Wuhan residential communit's public space, and designed the climate compatibility experiments, and analyzed some examples, at last proposed the design strategies of residential community's public space in four stratification plane: the construction contact surface, the street environment, the landscape environment, and the servicing facility, while unifying the climate characteristics of Wuhan. This thesis is one part of the research topic—Urban design Strategies based on Energy Conservation and Climate Adaptability in Hot-summer and Cold-winter Zone, supported by National Natural Science Foundation in China. This paper mainly used research techniques as deductive , the actual quantification and the social investigation, the conclusion has the positive significance to the sustainable development of residential community's public space in hot-summer and cold-winter zone, it provide evidences and references for the next relating research, as well as new design methods for urban planners and architects.
