Louis I Kahn is a great architect whose works are full of thoughtfulness, glorious and mysterious. After the deep research on the architecture of ancient Rome, he found how to transform the ruins in Rome to modern architecture in his late years. Louis I Kahn successfully realized this kind of transformation in all his architecture after Salk College. And he had practiced for many years to make attempt to come back to historical architecture before this. There is no doubt that his architectures are full of ancient power. Though he blazed a renewed way in modern classicalism, he refused to utilize the details of classical architecture. He limited himself on the way of modernism and abstracted in the ruins, which was more obvious in the design of Salk College, especially in the design of community centre. Louis I Kahn said"the ruins surrounding the architecture"when describing the Rome form in his works. And those ruins exposed in the air were proved to well fit for the climate in hyper-Indian continent and the brick -laying technology. After the death of Louis I Kahn, his large numbers of and high-quality un-built works were out of people's sight. This paper tries to fill the blank of domestic research in this aspect through careful investigation, and direct the Chinese architecture practice to get inspiration from traditional architecture and create high quality regional architecture. This paper contains 6 chapters. In Chapter 1, the background of research, concept of title, scope and significance of research, and content framework are introduced briefly. In Chapter 2, the experience of Louis I Kahn as an architect is illustrated. In Chapter 3, the main architecture design ideology of Louis I Kahn is illuminated.
