NETLAB is a remote laboratory based on Internet. It includes three parts: User, Server, and Experiment. It adopts Client-Server-Controller (CSC) architecture and Browser-Server-Controller (BSC) architecture. Multiuser can do experiments at the same time via NETLAB. It is flexible and robust. NETLAB provides more than 5 classes, 18 groups with over 60 experiments for E.E. students. All these experiments are based on physical equipments. NETLAB tries to simulate the traditional laboratory environment. This thesis summarizes the Server Soft Hardware Design of NETLAB. It is the key element of the entire system development. This thesis is divided into six parts. Chapter 1 introduces the remote laboratory development abroad and the background of the NETLAB. Chapter 2 briefly introduces the NETLAB and makes the Soft Hardware Requirements Analysis of the Server. Chapter 3 explains the Soft Hardware Design and Implementation of the Server. Chapter 4 details four key questions: the communication implementation, the use of multithread, the design and implementation of database, the server security and system security. Chapter 5 discusses some improvements of the server design and presents some suggestions for further development. Chapter 6 gives the conclusions.
