| Road safety is a comprehensive issue that is related to human, vehicle and road. Among one of those three factors, road and its environment are particular important part. The studies show that they contribute relative big part of road accident and affect human behavior.As automobile industry booms and road construction expedites, traffic volume and travel speed have increased in recent years, and the trip rate also increased. However the number of highway traffic accidents is climbing as a result of above-mentioned factors, poor traffic management, etc. Traffic accident has become a serious social issue, and how to solve traffic problem is an urgent need now. This is more serious in mountain road, so it is important to solve it.Based on the traffic safety problem of zhangjiajie and xiangxi municipality, this paper studies the traffic safety of mountainous road.Firstly, this paper gets the road characteristic and traffic condition, based on G209 in jishou, S306 in zhangjiajie.Secondly, it takes study on traffic accident data, by main elements analysis method, getting the comprehensive evaluation about traffic accident happening time, reason, road alignment, accident type, weather condition.Thirdly, from traffic engineering and traffic management measures, it gives the improving measures for traffic safety.In the end, this paper introduces guardrail, traffic sign, marking, especially on their laying methods for mountainous road.
