Study On VLC's Transit Capability For Nantong Port

In recent years, ship traffic volume of the important channels including the civil inshore and ChangJiang river has been increased rapidly. Then the capability of channel has been improved.Consequently,on one hand , these channels contribute greatly to economic and social development .On the other hand, increased volume caused a mass of accidents and loss which requires a higher standard on port planning, channel programming and safety management.Study on VLC's transit capability for Nantong port is the science to provide a foundation to the port planning,the channel programming and safety management.The research of transit capability is a new domain. Due to so many involved factors and indexes, it is more complicated than the general forecasting and needs different methods or combinations based on different conditions.The channel is an important part of the port,the capability of channel affects directly the capability of port, calculating the capability of channel is an import part of port planning.But the complexity of the channel and a great of factors from the environment make the calculation of capability of channel be very difficult and not perfect.On the basis of system analysis, this paper takes a further insight into the channel transit capacity of VLC for Nantong port.And with the combination of previous research methods, a comprehensive assessment model is set up in view of the effective width of the channel, the passing depth of the channel, the time taken for passing at high tide, etc. An applied program, the Assessment System on the transit capability for Nantong port, is developed with Visual Basic 6.0. This program is applied in the assessment of the port transit capability of the inner channel. The result will provide some practical suggestions to the real practice in the transit of this port.This article altogether divides into seven chapters.In accordance with systemic viewpoint and the practical need of production , the author refers the achievements of the prodecessor's research, What's more, this paper analyzes the operating process of the port & channel system which is composed of anchorage, channel, berth, weather and tide etc, studies characters of these factors, discusses the influence to the capability of channel which comes from capability of berth, weather, tide etc. At the same time, aiming at the main influence factors of waterway capacity, this article put forward several measures to improve the waterway capacity, which includes improving waterway condition, improving traffic condition and improving Level of Service,etc.In the end it is the conclusion and the forecast.This article apply theory to reality. The study on VLC's transit capability for Nantong port is scientific and rational, also has the certain referenced value.
