Coastal cities in eastern China are engaged in massive land reclamation from sea,trying to establish new specification port areas.Since channel is one of the most funda mental port supporting facilities,its preliminary design plays a vital role in subsequen t development and operations of the port,hence study on the optimization of the chan nel design for a new port is of great theoretical and referential significance for all new ports nationwide.Taking the Gaoshaling port area as an example,this thesis analyzes its channel design,and improves the design from three aspects which include navigati on safety and economy.Channel design mainly involves channel size,channel navigation standards,chan nel axis,channel plane layout and main dimensions design.According to the scheme f or Gaoshaling Channel in “Tianjin Port Master Plan”,this thesis adopts Mike21 Flow Model and Boussinesq equations to stimulate the conditions of reginal waves and tide s as well as the sediment movement,and gives a comprehensive study on the optimiza tion of Gaoshaling Channel design.Main work and contributions are concluded as foll ows.This thesis designs the channel width,depth,slope and length,and formulates a preliminary plan of the Gaoshaling Channel,according to the statistical analysis of the wind,waves,tides,sediment,water depth and other natural conditions of Tianjin Port area and the guidance of “Tianjin Port Master Plan”,which provides the research obj ect for subsequent mathematical modeling experiments and a prototype for optimizati on.Also,based on the results obtained from simulating the conditions of tidal currents by Mike21 Flow Model and the conditions of regional waves by the Boussinesq equa tions,the thesis analyzes changes in natural conditions during the operation periods of all the completed channels in Gaoshaling port area.Moreover,it evaluates the risks in Gaoshaling Channel,establishes a risk factor matrix,and adjusts the original design i n consideration of the simulation results of wind,waves and tides.After establishing a carrier model,the thesis compares simulation of its operation to investigate the modif ication of the design.Besides,the work considers the dredging fees and regular costs of siltation during operation,and proposes improvements of the design from economi c perspectives.
