Accompanied by the rapid development of the railway transportation globally, the railway transportation in china is stepping into a new stage. The overall speeding-up program and the construction of the high-speed railways has symbolized the opening of the new curtain concerning "the high-speed of passenger transport and the heavy loading of the freight". "High speed, safety and comfort" are the three main goals to be pursued for high speed trains. Among the three factors, high-speed and safety are the competitive strength and vitality of modern railways; the comfort means the ride performance of the train carriage that is closely related to the other two factors and the three factors strongly influence each other. Our country covers large areas with rich resources. Therefore, the country has strong demands of the transport and is also faced with the tough problems to be tackled. Nowadays, it is urgent and vital to evaluate the ride performance and comfort of the train carriages. To ensure the quality and the comfort of the carriage, with the speeding-up of the train, has been a key issue to be researched. The thesis firstly discusses the currently domestic and international researches on the ride performance of railway vehicles and also the situation of development pertinent to the issue. The analysis, comparison and conclusion about the researches on ride comfort are presented. The fundamental of the assessment of vehicle ride comfort is described, which includes the basic vibration theory, test conditions of the vibrating comfort, evaluation methodology and applied range of the vehicle comfort evaluation. Through the analysis above, the reasons of vibration formation and the vibration laws can be known well, and the evaluation standards for the ride comfort of vehicles and the measures to improve the comfort can be mastered. Then the various assessment standards for the ride performance and comfort are analyzed, including the definition and formula of the Sperling ride index, the application of the ISO2631 standard,, which is utilized to evaluate the comfort and ride quality of the vehicles. The TB/T-2360-93 issued by the Chinese Railway Ministry, UIC513R (European Railway Union Standard), GB5595-85 standard, and the Japanese standard of evaluating the vehicle ride comfort have also been discussed in the thesis. In the end, the SIMPACK simulating software has been utilized to set up the model of a passenger car. The process of modeling is given, and the comfort and ride performance are analysed. The influences of four different track inputs on the ride comfort are compared and analysed. Through the analysis and comparison, the difference of the evaluation results between different standards is discussed.
