Vehicles braking performance is one of the determination factors of ensuring the security of vehicle's driving and driven properties and also affects its travelling power performance. An air pressure drum brake, as a main power part of Trucks' brake performance, plays an important role on the effect of complete vehicle brake performance. Under the condition of good performance of brake itself, assembly quality on axle assembling also has an effect on its brake performance. Thus, the brake is assembled on axle, and it is regarded as a complete part. On-line inspection for brake is a problem to be solved for bettering the quality of axle assembling.This paper makes a research on brake performance on-line inspection for axle assembly of Trucks and testing equipments, based on the braking principle of vehicles and with help of relative knowledge about brake testing specifications of complete vehicle on road and test-bed of the test of brake performance. Firstly, according to the axle with drum brake of Trucks, the paper analysizes construction, principle and stress condition during the process of braking. Secondly, being based on three indexes of vehicle brake performance, braking effect, stability of braking orientation and constancy of braking effect, and taking relative inspection standards and testing specification on vehicle brake as reference, the paper puts forward the index and testing method of brake performance on-line inspection for axle assembly. Thirdly, taking inertia simulation as beginning of the test-bed design, puts forward the basic arrangement scheme, elaborates the basic principle of brake performance on-line inspection of axle assembly and analysizes the process of inertia simulation. Lastly, the paper introduces construction of the test-bed, principle of the key components and rule of design brielfly, generalizes testing process and has a simple analysis on datum from test-bed.
