| With the booming economy in recent years, the urbanization process of China is accelerating significantly. The prominent changes of economic structure and constructional structure in cities result in remarkable expanding of city scales. Although the urbanization process boosts local economy development, its by-products, such as environmental pollution, destroyed water and soil resources, and the urban hot island effect, etc, can have severe ecological consequences. They can degrade people's living conditions in the urban area; further, they may even jeopardize the city's ecology system. Researchers are laying more and more emphasis on the city green space system, because of its effectiveness in ecological environment improvement and city promotion. With the rapid urbanization, the application of landscape ecology is becoming more and more important in analysis and comprehension of the ecological green space problem in cities. Research on this topic has proved to be instrumental and practical. This thesis targets the green space systems in knoll cities. Based on landscape ecology, we seek to establish instrumental strategies on planning and design of green spaces in knoll cities, and explore the methodologies for knoll cities to turn into scenic and ecological cities. The thesis consists of five sections. The first section introduces the background of this research topic and current research efforts. We also propose our research goal, research strategies, and frameworks in this section. In the second section, we review related literature, and define the terminologies used in this thesis. Based on the related work, we then discuss major topics of landscape ecology theories, and describe the connections between landscape ecology and urban green space planning. Further, we thoroughly study theories and methodologies in green space planning. In the third section, we carry out case studies on past research and typical afforestation patterns of cities. Then we propose the problems to solve in knoll city green space planning. We describe our major research results in the fourth section. Combing the landscape ecology theories and the city green space planning, we study different application patterns of landscape ecology in green space planning, which are landscape boundary pattern, green patch pattern, green corridor pattern, and landscape matrix pattern, respectively. We propose novel design strategies based on landscape ecology theories and the city green space planning, analyze the effects of landscape ecology on green spaces in knoll cities. Further, we elaborate on, and classify the structure patterns of green space planning in knoll cities from the aspect of landscape ecology. The fifth section concludes the thesis with Policy and design methodology in city green space planning. |
