With the development of market economy and logistics professionalization, physical distribution enterprises developed rapidly. Among physical distribution business, freight loading problem is relevant to many factors and is important for distribution enterprises to improve service quality, reduce logistics cost and increase benefits. In reality, the freight loading in container, vehicle, ship and plane, etc all can be seen as freight loading problems.Freight loading problem belongs to NP-hard problem. With the increasing of the freight specifications to be loaded, the solution projects of the freight loading problem will increase by exponent speed. Therefore, when the amount of the freight specifications is few, the dynamic planning algorithm can be used to solve the freight loading problem. When the freight specifications is very diversify, some heuristcs such as genetic algorithm must be used to solve the freight loading problem.Focus on the models and algorithms for the freight loading problems, this paper mainly includes the following contents.(1) The importance of the freight loading problem for distribution enterprise to improve service quality, reduce logistics cost and increase market competition capacity is analyzed. Then the elements of the freight loading problem are systematically analyzed.(2) On the basis of modeling the one-vehicle freight loading problem considering the needing emergency of the customers, a two-phase algorithm is designed to solve the problem. Then the validity of the algorithm is proved by some experimental computations.(3) Based on modeling the one-vehicle two-dimension freight loading problem one-vehicle three-dimension freight loading problem and multi-vehicle three-dimension freight loading problem, the genetic algorithms for these problems are designed. And the efficiency of these algorithms is also verified by some experimental computations.
