Construction of residential buildings has also been the focus in urban and rural development. China has undergone a through housing reform and people are now placing more concern on the multi-functions, comfort and environmental quality of residential areas. The Human Settlement Conference convened by the United Nations was themed as"Everyone is entitled to have a comfortable house". The"everyone"mentioned here indicates the worldwide concern on social stability and justice. In China, only do we solve the housing problems for the majority middle class can we realize the dream of making"everyone"have a comfortable house. Therefore, the thesis paper stresses on how to create the most comfortable living environment within limited space.The paper is composed of five chapters, namely, Introduction, Comfort in Public Residential Buildings, Inter-related Study and Analysis on Various Subjects Regarding Comfort Design, Concepts and Strategies to Achieve Comfort Design, and Conclusion.The chapter of Introduction makes an analysis on people's actual demands for housing areas in China and a series of researches on sectors like, the development of living environment, governmental regulation strategies on housing construction and the marketing on real estate development. For a better transverse comparison, the Introduction also involves an analysis on the housing construction in Hong Kong and other areas overseas.The chapter of Comfort in Public Residential Buildings carries out discussions on the relationship among national standards, indexes and areas of houses regarding housing comfort.The chapter of Inter-related Study and Analysis on Various Subjects Regarding Comfort Design talks about the human demands for the housing areas from the perspectives of various subjects like, architecture, hygienics, psychology, effectiveness and environmental study in architecture, and so on.The chapter of Concepts and Strategies to Achieve Comfort Design probes into special functions, apartment designs and compound apartments based on the study on family structures and types of apartment.In short, the paper proceeds with the principles of"trapezium consumption"and"moderate consumption", gives out a systematic analysis on the concept of"housing comfort", and explains how to follow the principle of"precise designs"from space unit of behavior and skills in designs to achieve the most comfort within the limited housing space.
