In the constructions of roadway in coalmine and underground tunneling, the roof bolting support technology is a key factor. With the development of the rock mechanics research, the roof bolting support technology is gradually perfect, and is widely applied to the underground tunnel engineering. The development and research of the bolter, and the improvement of the bolter properties, are the key factors to enhance the quality of the roof bolting support system. Because the pneumatic roof bolter presently is the key machine used in the coal mine and a pneumatic motor is the key device to improve the performance of a pneumatic roof bolter, the static characteristics of gear motors in pneumatic bolter are studied by both theory analysis and experiments.According to the structure and principles of the gear motor, and based on fluid dynamics theory, the theory flow rate and the leakage flow rate and the efficiency of a gear motor were derived. Aimed at one type of motor in the pneumatic roof bolter, based on the above theory, the theory flow rate and the leakage flow rate and the efficiency of the gear motor are calculated. Furthermore, the properties of the gear motor are analyzed theoretically and experimental research.A data sampling system was developed for the existing gear motor test bench, and the properties of the gear motor were tested. Experimental research shows that the test result fits the theory analysis well. The static mathematical model of the gear motor was established by both theoretical derivation and parameters calculation, which was verified by experiments and every term in it has a clear physical sense. It is a basis for the improvement and development of the gear motor.
