LED light sources offer various advantages to conventional light sources for use in automotive signal lamps: shorter response time, higher efficiency, lower power consumption, environmental protection, smaller volume, longer lifetime, better shock resistance, easier design and manufacture and so on, therefore was widely accepted and welcomed by automotive manufactory, automotive lamp manufactory and consumers, and was research focus of semiconductor illumination all over the world. According to practical assignment of FoShan Nationstar Optoelectronics.Co.,Ltd, this paper researched the key technologies of optical design, structure design, and thermal design on LED for automotive rear combination lamps, and manufactured a LED rear combination lamp for truck and a LED multi-reflector rear combination lamp for car in the end. The results were summarized as follows:1, Studied the optical, thermal and electric characteristic of LED, and summed up the request and rule in national regulation about automotive rear combination lamps , and summarized the design method of automotive lamp, and computed the total luminous flux the number of LED for a automotive lamp using the zonal constant integration method.2, Expatiated principle of optics track and meaning of optics simulation model, and found two different methods of building LED optics model, and analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of them. Then, we Expatiated the design scheme process of LED truck RCL, and built the 3D model in structure software, and simulation the total optical result of rear lamp in TracePro, and manufactured the sample of rear lamp and brake lamp in the end, which has passed the testing in Automotive lamp center.3, Studied the work principle and design method of multi-reflector lamp, and designed the multi-reflector cavity of LED fog lamp, and adjusted the curves and surfaces, and then obtained the optical simulation results of multi-reflector cavity in TracePro, and manufactured the sample model of multi-reflector cavity of LED fog lamp in the end. It was proved feasible after testing in automotive lamp center.4, Analyzed the influence of rising the junction temperature of LED upon performance of LED; in other words emphasized significance of thermal design of LED lamp. We studied the approach of cooling of LED lamp, and built the theoretical model and equivalent compute model of LED lamp cooling system, and evaluated the feasibility of LED lamp from thermal aspect, and analyzed the main factors of LED lamp cooling capability, expatiated the testing steps of thermal resistance of LED rear fog lamp, and summarized the main methods of improving cooling capability.Finally, the conclusion and the developing trend were put forward.
