Research Of Design Methods Of Earth-Sheltered Architecture In The Middle & Lower Area Of Yangzi River

Earth-sheltered architecture appears more and more active in recent competitions and practices. From the ancient history, YaoDong Building has exerted all its advantages to make a comfortable indoor climate. Recently modern architects put more meanings on it, that is , saving energy and ground, resisting abominable weather, making a healthy and comfortable indoor climate, keeping continuation of natural landscape and unobtrusive in the environment. It seems that earth-sheltered architecture is reviving when climate in the middle & lower area of Yangzi River is more and more abominable. And there is a chance to do the earth-sheltered building——design of an ecological chamber in Champs Island, low density uptown, in Nanjing City.In introduction, the author introduces research object, motive of research and the production of previous researches. The author summarizes experiences and lessons, which could be applied in later designs. In chapter one, the particularity of climate and geology in middle & lower area of Yangzi River is discussed, which is the premise of the later content. Architecture design is considered under the influences of every element of climate and geology. The author emphasizes the influences and compares them with YaoDong Building. Content of chapter two is the most important part of the whole paper. Design methods of earth-sheltered architecture in the middle & lower area of Yangzi River is discussed from site planning, building entity, space configuration and details of construction. In chapter three, there is an attempt on computer simulation. Simulating the indoor climate of building may lead to the heat performance of the room. Repetitious constructing and simulating the surrounding skin of the building may lead to the best construction. The software named Climate Surface is suitable for architects. From these simulations, the author hopes more and more people know this software and use it in architecture design. Analyses of ecological chamber in Champs Island is also designing and validating through this paper.Research production is hoped to be helpful for the area of earth-sheltered architecture.
