Reservoir is one of the important measures using to flood control and actives by human. The duty of reservoir may be reduced two aspects. One is reliable provision the safety of reservoir. Another is maximum allowable dispatching the effectiveness of flood control and actives .With the extension of hydrological observation data and accumulation of reservoir operation experiments, periodic analysis and research the reservoir design flood is basic of operating above two aspects.With the continuous development of society economic and modern process, flood control is paied close attention by people. under reliable provision the safety of reservoir how to maximum allowable dispatching the effectiveness of flood control and actives is a important research subject . The research of reservoir design flood is one of basic works in this subject.It is based on the reasons, and the actual conditions of Tangcun reservoir are combined,the following contents are researched in this paper:1. According to the actual conditions of Tangcun reservoir, a objective and having fine statistic characteristics P—III frequency curve distribution parameters estimation method of proximate Tangcun reservoir is presented.2. The design flood hydrograph is computed using observation discharge data.3. The design flood hydrograph is computed using observation maximum precipitation.4. The flood routing is carried on using above two flood hydrographs and the reservoir characteristic stage is computed.
