Ancient towers belong to the category of ancient construction. They are precious historical cultural heritage of human beings and hold extremely important status in the construction history of our country. However, because they are constructed in remote era, the long-term natural disaster and the artificial damage already caused them to suffer the varying degree destruction or damage, some of them even bordered in collapse and ruin danger. But in our country protection research on ancient towers is relatively lagging. The scientific and practical protection theory and method has not been formed up to now. The corresponding study of theory and experiment is also extremely lack. Therefore it is urgent to carry on the research on the protection theory and the protection method of ancient towers.This paper takes the project example as a foundation. It conducts the theoretical research on protection of ancient towers in some basic questions. Its content mainly has:Combining project examples of the domestic and foreign ancient towers rectification, we conduct quite detailed research on rectification and reinforcement technology of ancient towers. We propose the research object of this article, namely the rectification and reinforcement plan of Guangzhou Huaisheng Temple light tower: grouting - releasing stress method.We have conducted the seismic reinforcement research on Guangzhou Huaisheng Temple light tower using outside pasting carbon fiber cloth. We have carried on corresponding computation analysis using finite element analysis software SAP2000 and discussed seismic reinforcement effect and main rules of the light tower. The result has indicated that, after reinforcement pasting carbon fiber cloth, the main tower crown displacement has obviously reduced and the anti- lateral force performance of the entire light tower has certain enhanced. It explains the restraint function from carbon fiber cloth to the tower body has indirectly enhanced the whole seismic performance of the light tower. It is a better seismic reinforcement method.Referring to the domestic and foreign research results, we propose the concept of "compositive exponent method". "compositive exponent preliminary diagnosis method" is a sequencing process of traditional and experiential appraisal method. We utilize compositive exponentγto appraise performance of ancient tower structures. It has produced concrete steps and computational methods of ancient tower seismic appraisal.The research results of this article may supply reference to similar ancient towers when we conduct rectification or seismic reinforcement. It has a very good application prospect in actual projects.
