The general situation of the development of steel structure of light-weight buildings with gabled frames all over the world is introduced firstly in this paper. Further, the applied scope of this structural system, the form and structure, the calculating method and so on are detailedly stated in this paper, In the same time, the optimization design of steel structure of light-weight buildings with gabled frames is studied in this paper, including determination of rational geometric parameters, determination of the most appropriate column spacing and span (with or without cranes), determination of scientific mechanic model, optimization of the member section of steel structure of light-weight buildings with gabled frames, optimization of roof purlins, and optimization of joints between columns and girders. Finally, based on the study above, a project example of steel structure of light-weight buildings with gabled frames is provided in this paper.
