Following a review of the researches in fly ash concrete at home and abroad and an analysis of its application at present, the thesis demonstrates the purpose and significance of research in high-performance high-volume fly ash concrete and then focuses on the key issues of the research.The following work was done for the research. The first was the research in raw materials with its focus on the impact of the quality of mineral additives on the performance of concrete. Selected for the research were slow setting superplasticizers and concrete of brands that are commonly recommended in Guangzhou. Second, a compatibility exploration was conducted of concrete, water reducing agents and mineral additives so as to ensure the optimum combination of raw materials. Third, selected cement, sand, stones, water reducing agents and grade one and two fly ash were put to various water cement ratio tests and fly ash mixing ratio tests. Based on the various working performance and mechanical properties of different types of concrete, we worked out the performance and properties of fly ash of two different grades and the law concerning the proportional change of fly ash and ensured the best types of fly ash being added to concrete and the appropriate mixing ratio range. Four, the making of regular concrete and high-volume fly ash concrete were further compared in cost so that finally the optimum mixing ratio of the high-performance high-volume fly ash concrete was derived. Such concrete not only has satisfactory working performance and mechanical properties for use in building fields, it is also socially and economically efficient. It has actually been successfully used in the construction of the second line of Guangzhou metro and Tianhui Plaza, Guangzhou.
